San Diego City College Knights traveled to Los Angeles City College for a preseason match up. It was San Diego's 3rd match of the season and the LACC Cubs 6th match. San Diego recently coming from a loss to Santiago Canyon, was hungry and eager to take on the LACC Cubs and their winning streak of 4. The game would begin with San Diego controlling the pace in the first 15 minutes, but LACC would respond with intensity and lineup changes that would shift the momentum of the game towards LACC, the half would end 0-0 with LACC having the clearer opportunities.
LACC would come back with this momentum in the second half and would soon score in the first 10 minutes on a shot from sophomore Felipe Alvarez assisted by freshman Fernando Avina. It seemed like LACC had taken control of the game, but San Diego would stay focused and put-up a good front and just when they thought they had a tying goal, the post would save LACC and keep the shut out intact. LACC's energy would prevail as they would keep having chances to score but San Diego's Goalkeeper would keep them in the game. It was an exciting game as both teams would have opportunities to score at the end of the game, but LACC would keep their 4th shut out in a row and extend their winning streak to 5. The Cubs will travel now to LA Mission College on Friday 9/16 and have 5 road matches in a row that will challenge them prior to the start of conference play.
